Hi, I'm Joshua
Grew up in Virginia and attended Liberty University.
Attended Dallas Theological Seminary's DC campus for my ThM while working at Burke Community Church.
Ordained at Burke Community Church after working in youth ministry for four years.
Currently working on my PhD in Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. My area of research is patristic eschatology.
My story begins in Vienna, Virginia. I came to know Christ as a young child, potentially around four or five, through the faithfulness of my parents and church community in sharing the Gospel. I have faithful parents and grandparents, who have continually pointed me to Christ, as well as several wonderful Sunday school teachers, who were formative in my spiritual walk. I am incredibly blessed to have grown up with men and women who are pursuing Christ and growing in their relationship with God.
I do not recall the exact moment of salvation. As long as I can remember, Christ has been a part of my life. This is an enormous blessing, as I have been able to grow up in communion with my heavenly Father. While I have rebelled against him innumerable times, God has consistently been gracious and faithful to me, calling me back to himself, washing me clean of my unrighteousness, and restoring me to fellowship with himself and his saints. I am undeserving of His grace and mercy, and unspeakably thankful for the provision of His Son on my behalf.
I grew as a Christian in high school through the mentorship of my family and youth pastor, who challenged me to be more of a leader in my youth group. Ever since middle school, I knew that I was called into ministry. My senior year of high school, the youth pastor, who is a mentor of mine, invited me to co-lead a middle school small group with him. My senior semester, I preached my first sermon in front of my home church, an 8-minute sermonette about pursuing a holistic relationship with God. After graduating high school, I attended Liberty University and pursued a degree in Speech Communications, continuing to be sanctified through all the normal struggles of college. During those years, I worked at my local church and helped lead the pro-life ministry at my school. Surrounded by wise and experienced mentors (a consistent theme in my life!), I grew in my relationship with God and in ministry experience.
After college, God led me to Dallas Theological Seminary, where I completed my ThM while working at Burke Community Church. God was enormously good to me over my time at BCC, providing me with amazing ministry opportunities, wise and caring mentors, and grace to carry on through all circumstances. I was ordained at Burke Community church in November 2021, got married and received my ThM in December 2021, and we moved to Dallas for me to pursue my PhD in August 2022. I have passed my comprehensive exams and am currently ABD. My specialty is patristic theology, and my dissertation is focused on eschatology in the early church. The move, transition, and PhD program have not been without challenges, but God has faithfully sustained and guided us through everything, strengthening our marriage and our faith in Him.
My wonderful wife, Julia, is a woman of great faith and incredible gifts. After some moving due to her father's job in the U. S. Army, her family settled down in Northern Virginia, and Julia spent most of her childhood only thirty minutes from where I grew up. She is linguaphile and has a degree in Spanish and South American studies from James Madison University. She currently works at OurCalling, an incredible nonprofit that ministers to the homeless in downtown Dallas. We both share lots of interests, including board games, good books, and long walks outside.
I cannot begin to summarize all that God has done in my life but continue to grow with Him daily. Because of His grace, even my repeated failures are opportunities for sanctification, as He repeatedly forgives and strengthens me. His love is truly great! In the awe-stricken words of Paul, “Oh, the depths of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen” (Romans 11:33-36 [NIV]).
